I really hope that's not the case....
Our 'dream man' has claimed he has been largely ignored by the British film and television industry since his success across the Atlantic.
The House star says he has not been offered any work in his homeland since charming American audiences as the painkiller-addicted doctor.
And despite achieving numerous award nominations for his work in the Fox series, Laurie said he feels ignored by his British contemporaries.
"The door slammed behind me, and that's it," he told the Radio Times.
"There's a notion that I've sold out. Sold out what?
"There's a peculiar British attitude that I took an oath I wouldn't be successful, and reneged on it."
The 48-year-old said the hours on the show were "relentless" and despite his strong desire to work again with Jeeves and Wooster co-star Stephen Fry, he remains "off the market".
"There's no time to do anything else," he explained.
The Blackadder actor - who has admitted to suffering from depression - said the pressures of the show had left him feeling distanced from his wife Jo and three children, who have remained in London despite his regular filming in Los Angeles.
But he added: "It's been a great strain, but all things come to an end - strains as well as delights - and we'll get through."
A Golden Globe winner, Laurie also paid tribute to American audiences, saying they are "more aware of the world outside" than their British counterparts.
Your fans support you Hugh.
Our Hugh hates talking to the press about his past - comparing the experience with putting his "testicles on a chopping board". The British actor, who has previously admitted to suffering from clinical depression, tries to remain upbeat by focusing on the future. But reporters like to delve into his background, and their questions often trigger a negative mood swing in Laurie. He says, "Obviously you are in a very vulnerable position (when you give an interview). You are putting your testicles on a chopping board. "I get anxious about a lot of things, that's the trouble. I get anxious about everything. I just can't stop thinking about things all the time. "And here's the really destructive part - it's always retrospective. I waste time thinking of what I should have said or done. I can't bear going through the same f**king dance of despair."
Aww poor Hugh... =[[
Should'a check.
I for one am HAPPY he didn't check. Now we get our wonderful doctor. But. I do feel bad for him. =[[ I love ya Hugh, you are so talented. DON'T BE MISERABLE!
Hugh was so convinced that House would be a flop, he stayed in a hotel for the first year of filming. The 48-year-old has been a household name in the U.K. since the 1980s but only shot to fame in the U.S. in 2004 for his portrayal of medical maverick Dr Gregory House, and Laurie admits when he first took on the character, he assumed the show would only last a handful of episodes, so he didn't even bother checking through his contract. The series went on to become a major international hit, with Laurie picking up two Golden Globe Awards [We all know that] for the role and signing up for seven seasons. But the star wishes he had more confidence when he first signed up to the programme. He says, "At the time (when the pilot episode was made) I blindly signed up thinking it wouldn't go anywhere. "I don't know what the odds are (of a pilot becoming a long-running hit) - one in 100? One in 200? I didn't realise what I was getting myself into. The first year I was in a hotel. Everyone else in the show was signing leases on houses and I said, 'You're mad, we're only going to last a month.' I literally didn't unpack."
It's OVER!
The strike is OVER- and it's about time. The biggest bummer about is the fact House episodes aren't coming until may, I'm not sure how I'll live. Most likely watching the three seasons over and over, and watching the Tevo episodes I recorded. Ah well, it's better then nothing right? Though I heard Hugh was planning on visiting his family, this ruins that. =( but, we are happy to know House Will be back this year.
House-- Expected to shoot 4 to 6 new episodes to air in April/May.

Poor Hugh
<-- This picture is not a photoshoot. No, it's sombre Hugh on a sailing trip Alone. Obviously thinking of some very depressing things.
Secrets are revealed...Surprising jump out of your seat action. Okay, so it's not MY GOD amazing. But it's sad. And it concerns our Hugh. Go read it.
Here's the starting. There's a link for the article.
Hugh Laurie has practically cornered the market in playing cheery upper-class characters - whether bumbling his way through numerous Blackadder series; as Bertie Wooster, or even, this week, as the rather pompous and imperious MI6 mandarin battling for supremacy with his MI5 counterparts in the BBC spy drama series, Spooks.
So it comes as something of a surprise to learn that the comedy actor has suffered so severely from black moods and depression that he has spent two years in psychotherapy and credits the experience with changing his life. --- More
